I said I was a propagandist. I said I was hacking their firewall. I said I was slipping material under their radar so they would digest things they would otherwise reject. I said I was purposefully manipulating people and purposefully carrying an agenda. I was not caught saying any of this. I said it into the camera, on purpose, more than once a year, and the recordings exist with timestamps. Almost nobody looked up. A few people did, and those are the ones who understood what the broadcasts were for. Everyone else heard a man being colorful, which is itself a feature of how a defense system works: a claim that sounds like a performance gets filed as a performance. Ten years on, the material has aged into evidence, so this is the right moment to lay the whole thing out — the statements, the mechanism, the reason the route had to run where it ran, and the fact that I am doing it again right now with a different vocabulary against a different wall. ## The Operation Had More Than One Vector The firewall of the individual listener was only one surface. I was approaching a multivector attack surface composed of cognition, language, relationship networks, publishing infrastructure and distribution feedback. The broadcasts worked on the individual firewall; the community gave people a place to practice the instruments together; the writing architecture made the ideas portable; the publishing systems gave them independent routes into the world; and the response returning from millions of people changed what I taught next. The object was not to damage the person. It was to reach capacities that conditioning had made inaccessible, then give the person enough agency and technical understanding to repeat the operation upon themselves, carry it into their relationships and eventually teach it without me. I knew from cybernetics that systems could be altered through feedback, iteration and the disciplined adjustment of inputs. I knew from Edward Bernays and Vance Packard that social psychology, motivational research and marketing could manufacture appetite, attach identity to consumption and turn private insecurity into commercial demand. The objection was never to commerce or profit; it was to fabricated need, debt dependence and predation being treated as the natural purpose of persuasion. The same instruments used to sell disposable goods through manufactured desire and senseless usury could be pointed toward a different exchange. The offer was the aspirational American vocabulary I had already developed in *Voice of Reason*: commonality, a high-trust society, individual resilience, individuation and human dignity. I was also trying to duplicate myself in the only form that matters at civilizational scale: distributed capability. The Argument in Miniature describes how an idea is completed at the scale of the sentence, paragraph and reusable passage. Dual-Render Authorship and Atomic Markdown made those ideas independently addressable without severing them from their source. AutoSites converted the marked corpus into pages, posters, feeds, search surfaces and programmable distribution. Simple Reminders at Planetary Scale joined authorship, atomization, publishing, analytics and feedback into an operating influence system. A listener equipped with concepts, an authoring grammar and a publishing surface no longer had to remain an audience member; that person could become another active node. ## The Firewall, and What It Was Protecting The word I used was deliberate and technical, and I chose it because I came up through systems rather than through ministry. A firewall inspects what arrives and refuses what does not match its rules. People have one. It is built out of conformity, inherited vocabulary, class and religious loyalty, prior injury, and the specific defensiveness a person develops around whatever they have already decided about themselves. I described it exactly that way on the air in July 2016: *there's been a firewall erected in you — it's called defensiveness*, a steel gate standing in front of a conditioning installed from birth to keep a person right where they are. What follows from that is the whole problem of the work. A person's protective ruleset does not evaluate a proposition on its merits; it evaluates the **packet**. If the framing is unfamiliar, the vocabulary foreign, the source socially suspect, or the implication threatening to an identity already under strain, the content is dropped at the perimeter without ever being read. I watched this happen at a scale almost nobody gets to watch it at. We were taking over a million comments a day, and I treated that as instrumentation rather than applause — a continuous readout of what resonated, what bounced, and exactly where the gate slammed. A good idea refused at the perimeter is indistinguishable from no idea at all. So the engineering question was never *what is true*. I already had positions. The question was **what gets through**, and that question has an answer that can be studied, tested, and improved. I said that on the air too: the reach we had was not charisma, it was that I had studied social psychology and understood how propaganda works and had decided to use it toward something good. ## What I Said I Was Doing, Stated On Camera, In Order Here is a portion of the record, enumerated, in the order it was broadcast. Every one of these is a statement of intent made publicly, to the audience it was being used on, while it was being used on them. 1. **November 28, 2015 — Platform Stewardship, Message Discipline, and the Ethics of Moderation.** The declaration itself. *A platform is for the dissemination of propaganda… I have an agenda… I am a propagandist.* I attributed the reach directly to method rather than to virtue — *because I have studied social psychology and I understand propaganda and how to use it positively to help tip the scales and hearts and minds toward goodness* — and then explained that the word itself was a device, chosen to provoke the question: *propaganda does not have a negative connotation, but I use that explicit terminology just to make you ask that question.* I called it an information war and said that competing ideas move like mind viruses, which is not a metaphor I have since retired. 2. **November 30, 2015 — Leadership, Trust, and the Architecture of Partnership.** The clearest statement of the route. People can model the behaviors that work without yet holding the explanation underneath them, and may come to that explanation years later. Designed properly, I said, a practice *opens the door for everyone and flies right under the radar of religion and ideology and all of that stuff — it can be universally accepted.* That sentence is the operating principle of everything I published in that decade. 3. **December 16, 2015 — Learning the System So You Can Walk an Unconventional Path.** Captured originally under the title *beyond rules: hacking the firewall of life*. The entire broadcast is the method stated as a curriculum, including the line that explains where all of this comes from: *hacking the firewall of life is really what I'm talking about, because I am a hacker first.* 4. **February 14, 2016 — Love, Social Design, and the Purpose of Community.** Here I said it about the community itself rather than about the message, and named my influences while I was at it: *I'm a bit of an Eddie Bernays-styled public relations social psychologist and lay psychoanalyst myself… I'm also manipulating people and I am also spreading and using propaganda strategically, but for a good purpose.* Then, of the Royal Society we were assembling: *we designed this using the same propaganda techniques, if you will, the same social psychology concepts, that a lot of ill-doers out there use to enslave you to become consumers — but we're using this to set you free with love.* That is the ethical content of the entire method in one sentence. The techniques are indifferent; the direction they are pointed is not. The structure was engineered rather than grown by accident, and I told the members so while they were joining it. 5. **April 2, 2016 — Constructing Genius Through Metacognition and Deep Listening, Part 3.** Mid-broadcast, in the middle of teaching abstraction and listening, I described what I was doing to the people listening as *hacking the firewall of your mind* — not as an aside, but as the explanation of why the lesson was built the way it was built. 6. **April 4, 2016 — Independent Media, Audience Trust, and the Responsibility of Reach.** The delivery mechanism stated as nutrition, and the most honest thing I ever said about audiences. We could not *just go out and feed people what they need because they would spit it out — their palates are ruined.* So: *give them some of the hype and some of the fun and some of the pop, hijack entertainment, and then put the vitamins and the minerals in there.* 7. **July 19, 2016 — Recognizing Opportunity and Answering Your Calling.** The fullest account of the mechanism I ever gave on camera. I described reading those million daily comments as studying *the social psychology of the masses… understanding what resonates*, and then said it outright: *I'm looking for a way to get through your firewall… I'm looking for a way to get through your defense system to deliver the payload of my mind and heart's message.* I placed myself among the writers, poets, filmmakers and songwriters who *tried to get past the firewall or the wall of your prison to deliver the payload of freedom into your mind* — some of whom *slip it into their lyrics* — and I closed with the sentence that should end any argument about whether this was deliberate: *these are people that are purposefully manipulating you for the better, just like I am. I am purposefully manipulating people. I am purposefully carrying an agenda.* 8. **September 29, 2016 — Breaking Automatic Patterns and Reclaiming Agency.** An entire broadcast built on the figure, teaching the audience to run the exploit on themselves: *these are all ways that you can hack your firewall — it is an attitudinal adjustment… it is your attitudes and your perceptions and your reflexes.* And step one, stated to a largely Christian audience without flinching: *you want to hack the firewall? Never trust a word. Any word… like the word God. Never ever ever trust the word God.* That is not an attack on anybody's faith. It is a statement that an inherited word arrives pre-loaded, that somebody with an interest did the loading, and that inspecting the word is the first operation. 9. **December 13, 2016 — Spiritual Practice and the Discipline of Action.** The same metaphor pointed the other direction, which is the part that makes it a real model rather than a boast: *the system and corporations have been trying to figure out how to hack into the firewall of your free agency and your heart.* I was never claiming to be the only party in the field. I was claiming to be a party in a field that was already crowded, and saying so. 10. **January 14, 2017 — Radical Self-Love and the Ethics of Self-Advocacy.** The most explicit sentence in the whole archive, delivered while demonstrating the technique on the sentence immediately preceding it: *I am hacking your firewall in your brain and slipping stuff under your radar so that you will digest things that ordinarily you would reject. And I do that all the time with everything that I write.* Later in the same broadcast, on word choice as the actual instrument: *I'm a wizard and I'm casting spells by spelling words with letters in my books. I'm trying to cast a spell on you. I'm trying to hack your firewall. I'm trying to get under your radar, your judgments, your assumptions… the machinery that was put in you from the time you were born to keep you right where you are. Because I want beauty and freedom for everyone, not just for myself.* Ten statements across fourteen months, and those are only the most explicit ones. The same declarations keep surfacing for another three years — *that page is for me to emit my propaganda* in September 2015, *I'm a propagandist and this is my propaganda* in January 2016, *I had to hack people's firewalls* in October 2017, *you have to kind of hack people's firewalls and you have to speak to their needs* in November 2018, *we're trying to hack your firewall* in January 2019. From the first year of the broadcasts to the last. ## The Route Went Through the Worldview My audience was roughly ten million people, approximately eighty percent of them women, and largely Christian. That is not a footnote. It is the entire design constraint. I was speaking live, without a script, to people who in most cases had no prior vocabulary for the material I was carrying. I did not solve that constraint by adopting a Christian vocabulary or making God the price of admission. I generally resisted the word; when I used it, I set it beside other renderings: *God, the universe, evolution, nature, whatever it is that your worldview is.* No single metaphysics was permitted to own the teaching. The carrier was a universalist vocabulary of heart, love, dignity, relationship, responsibility, agency and practice; those words could cross the room without requiring anyone to surrender either faith or reason. The language of the *heart* was therefore not a disguise for a harder word. The word that landed was the word that was correct for that room, and thinking otherwise is its own form of condescension. *Heart* was true, and it carried will, disposition, trained response, conscience and the actual range of options a person has under real conditions: what I have always called a person's **choice space**, and what runs through the whole archive as the gradients of agency. I also mean the ordinary injunction: have a heart. I am an Emersonian and Thoreauvian transcendentalist; I read Krishnamurti and Paramahansa Yogananda; I deeply appreciate Agape centered Christianity and have always found much to love in Buddhism. I am also a naturalist. The heart is not a childish placeholder for a system. It is the center from which care, courage and chosen relationship become conduct. But a good heart without adequate instruments remains vulnerable to systems it cannot perceive. The future I described has become the present: a world governed by systems, in which aversion to systems is a maladaptive trait. The upgrade was never from heart to machinery; it was from heart alone to a humane intelligence capable of reading, entering and shaping the systems that now govern the conditions of life. The clearest single demonstration I ever gave of this is a word I chose in 2013 and only explained in 2017, on the air, almost in passing. The word was **royal**. Here is what I said about it: *I tricked people with royal — I had to trick them, because I'm tricky. I had to hack people's firewalls.* And then the reason, which is the entire method compressed into one sentence: *people won't accept that they're holy.* I knew that everyone I had ever met was important, even holy, meaning that they had dignity as a human, including the ones who were down and out, including the ones behaving badly. They would have refused hearing that they were *dignified beings* being said about themselves, because everything they had been taught about themselves stood directly in the way of it. They would accept *royal*, because it's fun and people have a preoccupation with royalty. It is neither religious nor humanist. It was a neutral term and a high term. Nothing in the claim was softened and nothing was given up; the content was identical. Only the token changed, and the token was the entire difference between a message delivered and a message refused at the gate. Universalist language keeps every loaded term open to plural rendering. On causation I did not say *God* and stop; I named God, the universe, evolution and nature together. On the soul I said directly that some listeners did not believe they had one, that some held a mechanistic view, and that this was fine and worked just as well. The common ground was always an **observable relationship**, never a demand that theological, naturalistic and systems claims validate one another. I was not co-opting Christian metaphysics. I was refusing to let any single metaphysics close the room, then placing instruments on the table that belonged to everyone. ## The Payload Was Systems Literacy The payload was systems thinking: the capacity to perceive relationships, feedback, scale, boundaries, resource constraints and second-order effects as parts of one living arrangement. I was trying to prepare people for rapid adaptation through technological transformation, which was the future I discussed around the clock and which has since become the operating condition of ordinary life. Abstraction was central to that preparation because inherited categories fail when the rate of change exceeds the vocabulary available to describe it. People needed the ability to form new concepts, construct new vocabularies and select instruments adequate to systems becoming faster, larger and more interconnected. Dose, membranes, gradients, allometry and feedback were not the curriculum in full; they were handles through which a nontechnical audience could begin learning how to think in systems. The clearest example is one I taught constantly. When I told people to limit their exposure to a draining person — *it's cumulative, it's like radiation poisoning, it adds up, it's cumulative over time… after years you'll just find yourself worn to a frazzle*, and then *next thing you know, you've been remade in their likeness* — I was not giving relationship advice. I was teaching dosimetry. Exposure limits, cumulative dose, latency, and threshold effects, applied to a nervous system and to a person's finite metabolic, cognitive, emotional and financial resources. The instrument it displaces is binary splitting — *that person is good, that person is bad, I can handle it* — and the upgrade is enormous, because a person who can think in accumulated dose can suddenly reason about situations that a person sorting the world into good and bad cannot even see. The rest of the toolkit worked the same way. **Gradients** in place of either/or, which is why I drew concentric circles for people who only had categories. Membranes and selective permeability in place of walls, since a wall is all-or-nothing and a cell wall decides case by case. Finite resource budgets in place of willpower imagined as infinite. Scale and allometry in place of *more of the same, only bigger*. Pricing and cost curves in place of purely moral accounts of why people behave as they do. Feedback and reinforcement rate in place of blame. Second-order effects in place of the isolated incident. ## The Objective Was a Coalition +I was building a **coalition**, and a coalition is built out of commonality, inertia, and cohesion. None of those three are feelings. Commonality is a shared vocabulary. Inertia is a practice repeated by enough people for long enough that it keeps moving without being pushed. Cohesion is the capacity to stay coordinated through disagreement. All three sit downstream of the same thing: whether a population holds instruments in common. That is why the vocabulary work was never cosmetic. Every person who learned to think in cumulative dose instead of good-and-bad became someone I could reason with about exposure, about institutions, about infrastructure, about trust and its depreciation, without starting from zero. Multiply that across millions of people and a few years and you have something no amount of agreement-on-conclusions can produce: a population that can be handed a harder problem and actually work it. The instruments were the commonality. The daily practice was the inertia. The willingness to stay in the room with people who disagreed was the cohesion. I was assembling the preconditions of collective action under the cover of personal development, and I said that too, in February 2016, about the society itself. And the reason to assemble it was never sentimental. A group that shares instruments can survive a shock that scatters a group that shares only sentiment. I did not know in 2015 what the specific shock was going to be. I knew there would be one, and I knew which capacities a people needs in order to come out the other side of one still able to build. ## The Vocabulary I Was Not Able To Use I said this endlessly on those broadcasts, usually while apologizing for it. There was an enormous body of material I could not reach for, not because it was secret, but because the packet would have been dropped. Metabolic constraint. Thermodynamic accounting. Dissipative structure. Compute as a civilizational input. Succession. Substrate. Continuity as a service with a counterparty and a bill. Selection operating above the level of the individual. Say any of that in 2016 to an audience that came for encouragement and you do not get disagreement, you get a dropped connection. So I encoded it. *Energy* was doing work that *metabolic budget* would have done. *Atmosphere* was carrying ambient field strength and reinforcement rate. *The heart* was carrying agency under constraint. *Your truth is the one thing the world cannot get anywhere else* was carrying non-substitutable supply. I have no regret about any of it, because the encoded version actually arrived, and the technical version would have been refused at the gate and helped nobody. The prohibition has lifted, and it lifted for reasons that have nothing to do with me. The culture acquired the vocabulary on its own, under pressure, the way populations always acquire vocabulary — because events made it necessary. People now say *supply chain* and *grid capacity* and *compute* and *systemic risk* in ordinary conversation. The gate that would have dropped a packet about metabolic limits in 2016 passes it in 2026 without inspection. So I say it plainly now, and the body of work I am producing today is the same payload with the wrapper removed. My intentions have not changed. Not one of them. The same person is doing the same job with a larger permitted dictionary. ## The New Firewall In January 2019, late in a long broadcast, I said this: *there's a reason we're doing things. We have ulterior motives. No one can stop us now. We have ulterior motives. We're trying to hack your firewall. You don't know it yet, but you'll find out one of these days. You'll realize what we're doing one of these days.* That was a promise with no date attached, and this piece is me paying it. The disclosure ran from 2015 to 2019 and the explanation is arriving in 2026, which is roughly the interval I expected it to take. There is a new firewall, and I am not going to make you wait another decade to learn its name. The new firewall I am hacking is **Team fucking America**. The old operation carried dignity, agency, systems literacy and a common vocabulary through gates built from inherited worldview, religious loyalty, class suspicion and personal defensiveness. This operation is building the capacity to recognize ourselves as an American coalition with a civilization to continue, an infrastructure to construct and a technological future to secure. I am building the carrier in public, throughout everything I have published this year; this time the disclosure arrives while the operation is underway. The direct register remains the one I used in The New American Project: **you are either with us or against us as Americans**. The precise register matters just as much: the test is commitment, never origin. Team America is not a caste, a bloodline, a denomination, a party or a demand for cultural sameness; it is a coalition of people willing to build, defend and carry forward the country whose systems make their common life possible. Pluralism survives inside that coalition because pluralism is a variety of origins and perspectives joined to a shared continuity, not the absence of allegiance. A nation asks what you are willing to build with it. The urgency behind that coalition is developed in Voice of Reason and a High Trust America. America is already living through something like a **cold civil war**, conducted through institutions, platforms, courts, markets and culture; we no longer have the time or the slack required to win everyone over before the construction decisions must be made. A threshold forces hard economic cuts: energy, capital, compute, labor and institutional attention must be allocated toward what can carry national continuity, while arrangements that are no longer affordable will contract or end. That accounting increases rather than diminishes the importance of agency. My responsibility is to give people accurate information about the stakes, instruments, tradeoffs and available paths so they can exercise their agency well before economic necessity makes the decision for them. The operating culture already has a home. The same systems of comportment, conduct, manners and etiquette that I developed through the Royal Society now live in the American Culture Collection; the discipline of how a person enters a room, speaks, keeps confidence, handles conflict, maintains an instrument and carries responsibility remains intact. What has changed is the mandate. The American Infrastructure Collection names the work before us: energy, compute, fabrication, logistics, communications, civic coordination and the physical systems on which national intelligence depends. The Royal Society taught a community how to carry itself; Team America gives that cultivated character a country to build. Superintelligence removes the luxury of treating that alignment as a slogan. Intelligence capacity is survival capacity; the nation that leads establishes the infrastructure, standards, security conditions and range of possible futures within which every later aspiration must operate. As I wrote in Voice of Reason and a High Trust America, **There is no version of superintelligence safety in which a nation arrives second.** The contest therefore requires American compute, energy, industry, intelligence, institutions and citizens to recognize themselves as parts of one capability rather than as unrelated interests bargaining over the remains. Team America is the coordination layer through which national capacity becomes national continuity. The intentions remain what they were: commonality, inertia and cohesion; a people who hold instruments in common and can therefore be handed a harder problem. The harder problem is now considerably harder than the one I was preparing anyone for in 2015, and the margin for a delayed explanation has disappeared. I will tell you that I am working on you, tell you what I am building and preserve the sources by which the work can be inspected. You do not have to wait ten years for the name of this operation. It is Team fucking America. --- Bryant McGill is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, systems architect, technologist, and strategic advisor, as well as a Congressionally Recognized Ambassador of Goodwill and United Nations–appointed Global Champion. The passage arrives in the middle of a practical talk about comment moderation and platform etiquette, which is why it has gone unnoticed for a decade — the most explicit statement of method in the archive is sitting inside a housekeeping segment about dealing with difficult commenters. > > 1. **31:28–32:07:** Bryant turns from moderation to ownership of the platform itself. "A platform is for the dissemination of propaganda… This is my propaganda. This is Jenni's propaganda. I have an agenda. Jenni has an agenda. We have an agenda and this is propaganda and it is our propaganda." He calls it an information war and describes the work as combat "to tilt the scales in people's hearts and minds." > 2. **32:23–32:55:** The declaration and its justification. "I am a propagandist. Why the heck do you think that we're reaching a billion people a year? It's because I have studied social psychology and I understand propaganda and how to use it positively to help tip the scales and hearts and minds toward goodness." He then tells the audience to treat their own platform as "the spear point of your operation." > 3. **33:23–34:27:** The word choice explained as a device. "Propaganda does not have a negative connotation. But I use that explicit terminology just to make you ask that question and just to make you think about it. Because whether you know it or not, everything is propaganda." Competing philosophies are described as moving "like viruses, mind viruses," with news channels each spreading a different one. > > **Related broadcast: Leadership, Trust, and the Architecture of Partnership (November 30, 2015).** > > - **21:42–22:16:** Bryant explains the design principle behind the practices he teaches: people can model the behaviors of success without yet understanding the underpinnings, and may explore those later. "It just opens the door for everyone and flies right under the radar of religion and ideology and all of that stuff. It can be universally accepted." This is the route through the worldview stated as an engineering requirement. > > **Related broadcast: Learning the System So You Can Walk an Unconventional Path (December 16, 2015).** > > - **10:06–10:19:** The broadcast opens the theme: "I want to talk about beyond the rules. I want to talk about hacking the firewall of life… Because that's what I've done, believe me. I'm a hacker." > - **31:04–31:37:** The identity claim and its evidence. "Hacking the firewall of life is really what I'm talking about because I am a hacker first and foremost. Defiant Bryant is a hacker." He adds that by conventional standards he should be "flipping burgers," so something unconventional has happened, and that he learned over the years he was not the only one. > - **32:04–32:22:** He puts it to the audience as a choice: "I want to talk to you about how you can hack the firewall. If you're interested, are you interested in hacking the firewall? Or do you want to work with convention only?" > > **Related broadcast: Love, Social Design, and the Purpose of Community (February 14, 2016).** > > - **4:16–4:50:** Bryant names his influences and his practice in the same breath. "I'm a bit of an Eddie Bernays-styled public relations social psychologist and lay psychoanalyst myself… I'm also manipulating people and I am also spreading and using propaganda strategically, but for a good purpose." > - **12:28–12:58:** The ethical inversion, stated plainly about the Royal Society. "We're doing something different that hasn't been done before by design. We designed this using the same propaganda techniques, if you will, the same social psychology concepts, that a lot of ill-doers out there use to enslave you to become consumers. But we're using this to set you free with love." > > **Related broadcast: Constructing Genius Through Metacognition and Deep Listening, Part 3 (April 2, 2016).** > > - **53:13:** Mid-lesson, while teaching metacognition and listening, Bryant describes what the lesson is doing to the listener as "hacking the firewall of your mind." > > **Related broadcast: Independent Media, Audience Trust, and the Responsibility of Reach (April 4, 2016).** > > - **7:56–8:27:** The delivery mechanism described as nutrition. Bryant says they realized "we couldn't just go out and feed people what they need because they would spit it out — their palates are ruined." The method: "Give them some of the hype and some of the fun and some of the pop, hijack entertainment… and then put the vitamins and the minerals in there." He adds that it has to be done honestly — he will openly cover the pop material first and give the rest of the story at the end. > > **Related broadcast: Recognizing Opportunity and Answering Your Calling (July 19, 2016).** > > - **1:11:00–1:11:29:** Bryant explains where his knowledge of the system comes from — the symbols and iconography of the ruling-class majority, the celebrity-based culture alongside the monetary one — and says "that's how I engineered my life. That's how I hacked through the firewall, because I know how it works. And the reason I know how it works is because while you were watching TV, I was reading books… even though I couldn't read." > - **1:11:51–1:12:33:** The instrumentation. Over a million comments a day, and he asks the audience directly whether they think he is not "studying the social psychology of the masses by reading those comments and understanding what resonates. What am I doing? I'm looking for a way to get through your firewall. There's been a firewall erected in you. It's called defensiveness. It's called a steel gate. I'm looking for a way to get through your defense system to deliver the payload of my mind and heart's message." > - **1:12:40–1:13:36:** He generalizes it to every artist working the same problem — writers, poets, filmmakers, songwriters who know their audience is "imprisoned in an invisible prison they cannot even see," where "once you're properly, fully and absolutely conditioned, you become your own jailer." They "tried to get past the firewall or the wall of your prison to deliver the payload of freedom into your mind," and some "slip it into their lyrics." > - **1:13:48–1:13:57:** The statement of intent, left in no doubt. "These are people that are purposefully manipulating you for the better, just like I am. I am purposefully manipulating people. I am purposefully carrying an agenda." > > **Related broadcast: Breaking Automatic Patterns and Reclaiming Agency (September 29, 2016).** > > - **26:54–27:04:** Bryant hands the technique to the audience to use on themselves. "So these are all ways that you can hack your firewall. It is an attitudinal adjustment that most often needs to be made. It is your attitudes and your perceptions and your reflexes." > - **49:45–50:08:** Step one, delivered to a largely Christian audience without softening it. "Never trust a word. Any word. That's step number one. You want to hack the firewall? Never trust a word. Like the word God. Never ever ever trust the word God." He then asks for more loaded words to work through. > - **1:05:08–1:05:15:** He returns to it: inspecting one's own excuse-making is "a big way to hack your firewall. "So I put that on there to go under people's radar so they will absorb the first part of the message. And I do that all the time with everything that I write. I am hacking your firewall in your brain and slipping stuff under your radar so that you will digest things that ordinarily you would reject." He then moves straight into an inspection of the word *humility*. > - **1:58:49–1:59:43:** Word choice named as the instrument. The material is "hidden in plain sight in dictionaries… hidden in the uncommon use of words," and so: "I'm a wizard and I'm casting spells by spelling words with letters in my books. I'm trying to cast a spell on you. I'm trying to hack your firewall. I'm trying to get under your radar, your judgments, your assumptions, your self-defeating — the machinery that was put in you from the time you were born to keep you right where you are. "I tricked people with royal, okay? I had to trick them, because I'm tricky. I had to hack people's firewalls." The reason follows immediately: "people won't accept that they're holy. I knew everybody I ever met was holy — even if they were down and out, even if they were, you know, what would be nasty, which is just a hurting person. I knew they were royal." The passage sits inside a broadcast about handing the audience the tools to publish for themselves. > > **Related broadcast: Perseverance, Emotional Diversity, and Collective Intelligence (January 14, 2019).** > > - **2:02:37–2:02:54:** The declaration restated three years on, in the plural, with a promise attached.
