# Persistence **Domain:** Behavioral science / Achievement / Human potential **Doc Type:** Canonical concept node **Maturity:** Developed ## Definition Persistence is continued, adaptive effort toward an aim across delay, difficulty, boredom, uncertainty, and incomplete reward. ## Mechanism and Significance Persistence gives practice time to accumulate. Repetition can deepen skill, expose error, improve strategy, and create opportunities that are unavailable to a person who exits before the relevant threshold is reached. ## Evidence Boundary Persistence is not blind repetition. Evidence may require revision, rest, a different strategy, or abandonment of an unworthy goal. Durable effort remains responsive to reality. ## Relationships Discipline · Mastery · Delayed Gratification · Long-Term Thinking ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “Immediate gratification can kill dreams.
