# Resilience **Domain:** Ecology / Infrastructure / Continuity **Doc Type:** Canonical Concept Node **Maturity:** Foundational ## Definition **Resilience** is a system's capacity to absorb disturbance, preserve critical function and reorganize without crossing into unacceptable failure. ## Evolutionary Nexus Patch populations, geological instability and public scientific infrastructure in The Evolutionary Roots of Silicon Valley show that resilience is ecological and relational. It depends on diversity, viable refuges, repair pathways and learning—not mere duplication. ## Continuity Context For consciousness infrastructure, resilience must preserve agency and identity-relevant state, not only service availability. A system that restores computation while silently replacing the claimant may be operationally resilient and personally discontinuous. ## Key Insight **Resilience is the preservation of valued relations through disturbance, not simply a return to any running state.** ## See Also Metapopulation, Correlated Failure, Continuity Stack, Restoration Integrity ## Simple Reminders, Quotations, and Thoughts > “The human spirit has always resisted confinement.
